It’s been a pleasure putting it together as the enthusiasm from everybody in the hunting fraternity has been amazing, from the sporting goods industry right through to the active hunters out in the field. Most of you will know me already, but to those who don’t, I am an extremely active and experienced hunter who loves all types of hunting. My family and I absolutely live, breath, eat and sleep hunting, and you’ll share and enjoy our passion as you read. We hunt small game and varmints, waterfowl and upland game birds, and the full spectrum of big game animals in NZ.
I am also very passionate about preserving the future of our sport by active involvement with the major organizations such as The Game Animal Council, Kaweka and Lower North Island Hunter Liaison Groups, Fish and Game NZ, and the NZ Deerstalkers Association. I have always put my time and money where my mouth is, to ensure our hunting and fishing recreations are there for future generations to enjoy – its part of what makes us New Zealanders!
We are pleased to introduce to you a team of active, passionate hunters as regular columnists. These experts in their respective fields will inform and entertain you, while imparting some of their passion for our sport along the way.
My wife Fiona (Fi) is in charge of production of the magazine, making sure everything gets done on time, leaving me to concentrate on hunting, testing and writing.
Our son Willie has also now joined us to put his enthusiasm and knowledge into the magazine, and also to drive the TV Show
Rick Plummer controls the design and layout.
Then we have our team of local experts:
Roy Sloan from the GAC and Fiordland Wapiti Foundation and lower south and Stewart Island expert; Paul Stenning, Mr Waterfowl himself; John Bissell, passionate hunter from the Wairarapa and expert at teaching the novice hunter; Teresa Borrell, NZ representative skeet shooter and champion field trial Chesapeake Bay Retriever breeder; the Back Ridge Butcher, Glenn Morris, game butcher and passionate Sika hunter; Julian Danby, our Rusa and Sambar expert amongst other things from the BoP; expert photographer and hunter Matt Winter teaching us all about photography from a hunter’s perspective; Paul Michels our bush hunting and deer dog expert from the Urewera; Rob Shuttleworth with the epic stories from days gone by; Greig Caigou the thinking hunter; my great hunting mate Dave Yule and his tree and bush series, and Simon Bullivant from Advanced Archery, our resident Master bowhunter. We also welcome the boys from NZ Waterfowlers – Geoff Irvine and Hunter Morrow. In charge of all things culinary is Richard Hingston from Canterbury, a chef of 25 years who loves nothing better than a wander up a river valley with a rod or a gun.
We have a printing team lead by Brian Herlihy from MHP, who is also a keen hunter and competitive rifle shooter.
So you can see we all believe in the NZ HUNTER vision. I know you’ll enjoy the magazine and please email us your comments, feedback and what you’d like to see in future issues. NZ HUNTER will be continually evolving to be the best hunting magazine out there with your help!
